Exhibition: Seeds, Up Close and Personal!

A traveling scientific and artistic exhibition.
Created by the National Alpine Botanical Conservatory (CBN alpin), the exhibition La graine, en grand ! invites visitors to discover seeds in all their diversity, ingenuity, and beauty.

It allows a broad audience to reflect on, marvel at, understand, and admire these seeds through an exhibition where scientific and artistic elements complement one another.
An artistic component:

• The artistic component of the exhibition La graine, en grand! consists of 22 pairs, each comprising a photograph of a seed taken by Jean-Claude Cerre and an audio recording accessible via a QR code.
  Each recording features the voice of a botanist or ecologist from the Alpine CBN describing a characteristic of the seed or plant depicted in the photograph.

The diversity of seeds thus becomes accessible:

• through listening, which reveals their dispersal, adaptations, and uses;
• through observation, which highlights the variety of forms depicted in the photographs;
• through the imagination, which conjures up—depending on the case—pebbles, helmets, alien heads, feathers, underwater creatures…

A Scientific Component

Complementing this artistic approach, eight panels offer an accessible scientific exploration of the complex and multifaceted world of seeds, revealing:

• the remarkable diversity of seeds, exploring this diversity at the interspecific, intraspecific, and genetic levels;
• seeds at the heart of conservation issues, seeds as a tool for plant conservation, and the stages of seed conservation;
• seeds, essential to ecological restoration: the use of wild and local seeds in ecological restoration and an introduction to the soil seed bank.
