ITINERARY
The trailhead is located in the hairpin bend before entering the village of Villard Notre Dame. It then climbs up the Rochail valley on the left bank of the torrent to the refuge des Sources.
The view from the trail is spectacular, overlooking the Aiguilles d'Arves, the Emparis plateau, the Ferrand valley, the Grandes Rousses massif and the resorts of Alpe d'Huez and Villard Reculas.
Located at 2268m altitude, a 3-hour walk from Villard Notre Dame, this small, unguarded mountain refuge overlooks the Vallon torrent. Facing due south, it is on the access path to the Rochail summit.
WORTH KNOWING
Shortly after setting off, you'll pass through the ruined village of l'Essard, whose inhabitants were warned just in time that the Germans were coming on November 3, 1943, and thus saved their lives.
