Looking for a trail challenge in La Grave? Instead of taking your car to Le Chazelet, head for the Plateau d'Emparis from La Grave!
An unmissable vertical kilometer, with a breathtaking view of the Meije, which evolves along the way.
The plateau will give you some respite, in a wild and timeless environment.
This itinerary is a round trip from La Grave to the Plateau d'Emparis, containing a 6-kilometer loop on the plateau.
From the La Grave village road, take rue de Dode (opposite the grocery store) and continue on Montée de l'église.
Follow the GR 54 up the track towards the hamlet of Les Terrasses. Cross the hamlet, cut the first bend, pass the oratory and then the perch.
Continue on the D33 for about 1 kilometer to reach Le Chazelet. At the intersection before the hamlet, take the left-hand road to Le Chazelet.
Go through the hamlet towards the Plateau d'Emparis: take the track that descends slightly towards the torrent du Gâ, cross the bridge and continue to the left (do not take the Clot Raffin path).
Go past the two buildings, then take the path that winds up to the Emparis plateau. Do not cut across the path, out of respect for the environment. Pass under the ski lift. After 2.6 kilometers, at the junction, take the middle path towards the Galan stream.
Before the Col du Souchet, head north-east towards the Col de la Brèche, and at the foot of the Col de la Brèche continue south-east to find the junction: you've just completed a 6-kilometre loop on the Plateau d'Emparis!
Take the same route back down to La Grave. Possible alternative: descend to Chazelet via Clot Raffin.
