Tour of the Emparis plateau

Hiking through the alpine pastures of the Emparis plateau, facing the Meije and the Pic du Mas de la Grave.

From the parking lot, head down towards the village. At the first junction, turn right towards the bottom of the village. At the second junction, don't go up into the village, but take a right-hand hairpin towards the foot of the ski lifts. At the third junction, stay on the slope (do not descend towards the torrent). Continue along the wide track. At the next junction, turn right towards the three hamlets of Les Rivets. Cross them and reach the Tuf cross (1901 m). At the cross, continue straight ahead. At the Buffe huts (2005 m), cross the small stream to the left and follow the path upwards. Pass a small rocky bar and immediately afterwards turn sharp left up wide grassy slopes, leaving the Chemin d'Avant nr° 10 path on the right, which leads to the Pic du Mas de la Grave. Slightly marked path /!\ At the top of this slope, ford the small stream and take the left-hand path that follows the valley to the Rif Tort chalet. Rejoin the GR54 at Col St-Georges. Note: from the Col du Souchet it's possible to make a loop of around 1hr, passing through Lac Noir and then Lac Lérié (yellow markings) before rejoining the GR54 below the Col du Souchet. At the benches, on the descent to Le Chazelet, fork left towards Clos Raffin, then take the same path back to Le Chazelet station.
